The Rochester Business Journal recently conducted a poll on the estate tax. Here are the results.

Which one of these estate tax proposals do you support?

  • Repeal the estate tax permanently - 41%
  • $5 million individual exemption and 35% top rate - 23%
  • $3.5 million individual exemption and 45% top rate (the 2009 levels) - 14%
  • $2 million individual exemption and graduated rate structure (from 45% for estates up to $5 million to 55% for estates over $10 million) - 8%
  • $3.5 million individual exemption and graduated rate structure (from 45% for estates up to $10 million to 65% for those over $500 million) - 8%
  • $1 million individual exemption and 55% top rate (the 2001 levels) - 6%

I don’t know how scientific this poll is since they only surveyed their own readers who chose to participate.
